Kenmare Apartments

This project was set in beautiful Kenmare, Co. Kerry. Our clients had purchased four separate apartments in a contemporary development in secluded grounds on the periphery of the village. The brief was to amalgamate three of them and reimagine the interiors to create a luxurious but cosy holiday retreat; while retaining the fourth apartment as a separate guest residence.

As the apartments were located over two levels, the principal intervention was to break through the cast concrete floor and create a new oak-lined, contemporary staircase hall to make a physical connection between floors but also to bring a sense of height and drama to the interior. The stairs and panelling were made of solid oak and the handrail and balusters are of stainless steel.

We reconfigured the interiors to create bright, airy living spaces and a generous master suite, along with more intimate spaces to escape to.

Sheehan and Barry worked closely with the contractors, local craftsmen and joiners to produce a project of the highest quality and finish. Contemporary furniture, rugs and lighting were selected and commissioned through Minima and TC Matthews in Dublin and Design Bros and Vaughans in London.
