This project involved the renovation and extension of a detached house on a corner site of a small 1960s housing estate in Milltown, Dublin 6. The interior structure of the existing house was completely stripped out and re-configured, including the creation of habitable rooms at attic level; A two storey extension was added to the side of the house and a single storey extension was added to the rear of the property. Given the simple forms and materials of the surrounding houses a restrained palette of high quality materials and simple forms were employed in the design. The old layout of small enclosed rooms was transformed to create a series of large, flowing spaces. The works also involved the implementation of a rainwater harvesting system, solar water heating and geothermal heat pump.
